Homeward Privacy Policy
Homeward is an app published by Gremlin Garage ("we", "us"), available on Google Play and as a web app at gremlingarage.dev/apps/homeward/app/. This policy explains what information is handled when you use it.
The short version
Your rota, plans and checklists are stored on your device, and in your own Google Drive if you sign in. We only hold what you choose to share with family, and you can delete it at any time. There are no ads, no analytics and no tracking.
Information stored on your device
Your rota pattern, days you change, events (such as bills, appointments and birthdays), notes, checklists, the people you follow and your settings are saved in the app's storage on your device.
Google sign-in and Google Drive (optional)
If you sign in with Google, Homeward asks for your name and email address (shown in Settings) and for access to Homeward's own hidden app folder in your Google Drive (the drive.appdata permission). It uses that folder to back up and sync your data. Homeward cannot see any of your other Drive files. This data goes directly between your device and Google and never passes through our servers.
Homeward's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Disconnect any time in Settings, or at myaccount.google.com/permissions.
Family sharing (optional)
If you tap Start sharing, Homeward stores a copy of the following on our server (Cloudflare, operated for Gremlin Garage): the first name you enter, your rota pattern, the days you've changed, and the events you've ticked "Share with family" (title, date, type and repeat). It doesn't store your notes, checklists, email or Google account. Anyone with your code or share link can see this, so only give it to people you trust. Stop sharing deletes it from our server straight away.
When someone follows you, their app fetches this shared copy. We don't record who follows whom. To prevent abuse, our server briefly keeps a one-way hash of the IP address making requests, for rate limiting, and deletes it within an hour.
Notifications and calendars
Reminders are scheduled on your device. If you or your family subscribe to the calendar link, your calendar app fetches the same shared information described above.
Advertising, analytics and tracking
Homeward has no advertising. It does not include analytics or crash-reporting tools, and it does not track you across apps or websites.
In-app purchases
Homeward Pro is an optional one-off purchase processed entirely by Google Play. We never receive your payment details.
Children
Homeward is a general-audience app and is not directed at children under 13.
Data retention and deletion
Data on your device stays until you delete it (Settings › Delete everything), clear the app's data or uninstall. Shared data is deleted when you stop sharing or delete everything. Google Drive data is deleted by Delete everything while signed in, or in Google Drive › Settings › Manage apps.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (including the UK and EU), you may have rights to access, correct or delete personal data. Email us and we'll help. In the UK you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Changes
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted here with a new effective date, and the Google Play data safety information will be updated to match.
